Howard L. Frey, MD, FACS

Dr. Frey graduated magna cum laude in Biology from Harvard College in 1973. He earned his MD degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD in 1977. He remained at Johns Hopkins for his surgical residency and completed his urology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Frey is the Director of the Multidisciplinary Urologic Oncology Center and Chairman of the Urology Tumor Board at The Valley Hospital. He has been a featured doctor in New York Magazine’s “Top Doctors” for over ten years. He is past Director of the Department of Urology at The Valley Hospital.

Dr. Frey is certified and re-certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Frey has an active interest in urologic oncology.

Richard David Baum, MD, FACS

Dr. Baum graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1977. He earned his MD degree from Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, LA. He pursued post-graduate training as a surgical intern and resident at New York University Medical center, where he also served as a resident in urology.

Dr. Baum is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

He has been Chief Resident in Urology at Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan Veteran’s Administration Hospital and New York University Hospital, all in New York City. He has served as the Associate Director of the Department of Urology at The Valley Hospital.

Dr. Baum was one of four recipients of The Medical Society of New Jersey’s Biennial Quality Recognition Award, presented on June 14, 2015 at the MSNJ Board of Trustee meeting. This award is given to recognize commitment to quality, continuous improvement, leadership and patient satisfaction in the health care community.

Wayne deTorres, MD, FACS

Dr. de Torres received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Rutgers University. After working in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry, he earned is MD degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed internship training in general surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland before serving honorably for three years as a Medical Officer with the Atlantic Fleet in the U.S. Navy. Following military service, he completed residency training in surgery and urology at The University of North Carolina. Working in urology practice since 1996, he has active interests in the areas of minimally-invasive surgery, oncology, stone disease, voiding dysfunction, infertility, and prostate diseases.

Dr. de Torres is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of several professional medical organizations and holds various leadership positions in the local medical community.

Victor H. Hartanto, MD, FACS

Dr. Hartanto graduated summa cum laude in biomedical engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He earned his MD degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then completed his residency in urology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and his fellowship training in Female Urology and Voiding Dysfunction at New York University in New York City. Dr. Hartanto is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons (FACS). He also holds an additional Board Certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

In addition to practicing general urology, Dr. Hartanto has special interest in:

  • Management of kidney stones.
  • Management of all types of female urinary incontinence.
  • Management of vaginal prolapse using a minimally invasive robotic approach.
  • Urologic evaluation and treatment of urinary problems related to neurologic conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury and Diabetes Mellitus.
  • State-of-the-art Urodynamic testing for bladder dysfunction evaluation.

Dr. Hartanto is currently the Associate Director of the Department of Urology at The Valley Hospital.

Saurabh Agarwal, M.D.

Dr. Agarwal graduated summa cum laude from Boston University. He earned his MD degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1999. He was elected a member of the prestigious honor society Alpha Omega Alpha in 1998. He completed his general surgery and urology residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Dr. Agarwal has expertise in laparoscopic and robotic surgery to treat conditions of the kidney, bladder and prostate. He has extensive experience with Da Vinci robotic surgery and has monitored other physicians on the use of the device.

Dr. Agarwal also offers minimally invasive options for the treatment of BPH including Holmium and Green Light laser prostatectomy. Dr. Agarwal also offers the non-scalpel vasectomy procedure with rapid recovery and no sutures.

Dr. Agarwal is certified by the American Board of Urology and is happy to accept new patients into his practice.

Timothy J. Mackey, MD

Dr. Mackey is the Director of the Department of Urology at The Valley Hospital where he serves on its Medical Board. He is the Medical Director for Ridgewood Lithotripsy for non-invasive kidney stone treatments at the Luckow Pavilion. Dr. Mackey has repeatedly been named to Castle Connolly’s New York Metro Area’s top doctor list. He has been in private practice in Midland Park, NJ since serving as chief resident in Urology at University Hospital and the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland in 1999 where he authored papers on Laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Mackey attended the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar and received degrees in Chemistry and Economics (1989) and later his MD degree (1993). He was the recipient of multiple merit based scholarships including National Merit Scholar. He conducted summer research as both a National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health Fellow. He was the Salutorian of Georgetown Preparatory School (1985).

Dr. Mackey is certified by the American Board of Urology.
